Job Description
Overview

The Employment Solicitor (Head of Department) position in Birmingham offers leadership of a well-established practice within a national law firm. This full-time role involves managing a team advising employers on contentious and non-contentious matters, working with national and international businesses, public sector bodies, and senior executives to provide strategic direction.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Birmingham employment team, advising on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters for employers, including day-to-day HR issues, disciplinary and grievance matters, redundancy and restructuring programmes, discrimination and whistleblowing claims, TUPE, restrictive covenants, and Employment Tribunal litigation.
  • Provide commercially focused advice to national and international businesses, owner-managed companies, public sector organisations, and senior executives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across corporate, commercial, and regulatory teams on the employment aspects of mergers, acquisitions and business restructures.
  • Develop and manage client relationships, drive business development initiatives, mentor the team, and contribute to the firm's wider national employment strategy.
The Candidate
  • Experienced Employment Solicitor with a proven track record advising employer clients on complex matters.
  • Open to Partners, Legal Directors and ambitious Senior Associates seeking a leadership role.
  • Excellent technical ability, strong commercial awareness, and a genuine passion for building long-term client relationships.
  • Experience supervising and developing lawyers, with appetite for business development and practice growth.
