About your new role
Our market-leading Employment, Pensions and Immigration team is seeking an experienced employment lawyer primarily to work with our healthcare clients. We advise clients across the UK, including some of the country's largest and most well-known employers. The quality of our clients and the strength of our relationships reflect the high standards of our service.
The candidate will be based at our Manchester office, which currently comprises three Partners, two Principal Associates, one Associate, and a Trainee. Our team is highly ranked in the Legal Directories and aims to grow further.
As a lawyer in the healthcare team, this role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to business growth, working alongside Partners to develop the practice, with scope for career advancement. You will manage a diverse caseload of employment matters, mainly for clients in primary care, secondary care, and private healthcare sectors, and will be responsible for:
- Advising clients on various employment law issues, including redundancy, disciplinary matters, grievances, whistleblowing, discrimination, and detriment claims.
- Defending Employment Tribunal claims, including drafting defences, bundles, witness statements, and merits reports.
- Providing advice on change projects, modifying terms and conditions, and consultation requirements.
- Offering industrial relations advice.
- Assisting team members with their caseloads as appropriate.
- Drafting articles and legal updates.
- Supporting business development activities, including training and networking.
- Ensuring work complies with client and internal SLAs.
- Adhering to Weightmans' values and procedures.
- Contributing to team financial and utilization targets.

About You
We seek candidates with a genuine interest in the above area of work. The role is varied, so flexibility and adaptability are essential. You should also have or be:
- 5+ years PQE (considering relevant experience from all candidates)
- Strong technical knowledge
- Experience managing your own caseload, preferably within the healthcare sector
- Attention to detail
- Ability to multitask, meet strict deadlines and targets
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills
- Flexible approach
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior fee-earners (desirable)
