A place that is proudly distinctive. We'll be celebrating all this and more as the "rebel borough" when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Haringey's people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the role

As the Employee Relations Manager, you will play a pivotal role within Haringey Council's Employee Relations team, which manages a high volume of complex cases including sickness, disciplinary, capability, and grievances. You will be a strong people manager, able to inspire and lead the team towards high performance and maximum efficiency. With proven experience in handling Employment Tribunal claims and high risk cases, you will bring the ability to assess and manage organisational risk effectively. You will also be adept at analysing case data, identifying trends, and providing insightful reports and recommendations to help the organisation address challenges and continuously improve.

About the team

Working closely with the wider HR and Organisational Development function, the team collaborates with Strategic OD and HR Business Partners, the EDI Lead, and the Employment Practice Manager. Together, this wider team is responsible for organisational design and development, reward, policies, wellbeing, and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI). This collaborative structure ensures that employee relations are managed effectively while contributing to broader organisational priorities and creating a positive workplace culture.

About you

Exceptional people management skills are essential, enabling you to lead, motivate, and develop your team to achieve high performance. Resilience is a key strength, allowing you to manage challenging situations while maintaining focus and professionalism. You will have the ability to assess and manage risk in relation to ER cases, ensuring sound judgement and appropriate outcomes. Confident in communicating with employees, peers, managers, and senior leaders, you will be able to present clearly and persuasively in meetings and training sessions. Highly organised and self managed, you will demonstrate strong leadership and the capacity to work under pressure. In addition, you will be skilled in analysing data, identifying trends, and making evidence based recommendations for suitable interventions that drive continuous improvement.
