Emergency Response Volunteer: On-Call Community Support

When there is a fire, flood or severe weather, we're among the first to respond.
You must be located within 30 minutes of the Northampton British Red Cross office (NN3 6SU).
This is a 24-hour service and volunteers will need to be available when on call.
We would like volunteers who;
- Be able to volunteer on a regular basis.
- Be able to commit to 24 hours per month on a rota - 6 hour shifts.
- Have held a driving licence for at least 2 years which allows you to drive in the UK. Be confident driving a large British Red Cross vehicle or leased vehicle.
- Are able to attend monthly team meetings.
- Are available to undertake required e-learning modules and online training sessions in the first few months of volunteering plus other service specific trainings as required.
- Can commit to volunteering for at least 12 months.
Applicants must undergo Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check and provide ID documents in support of the DBS check.
Unfortunately we aren't able to accept applications from 15 - 17 year olds for this role. Please get in touch and we can support you to find another role in your area.
What you will be doing- Respond to emergency call outs in your local area.
- Give emotional support to people and communities affected by an emergency.
- Give practical support such as distributing clothing, food or water after an emergency.
- Tell people where they can get extra support.
- Collaborate with local government or emergency services staff.
- Warm and friendly.
- Calm and can follow processes under pressure.
- Good listening skills and ability to empathise.
- Can communicate in a calm manner.
- Able to act responsibly.
- Meet new people and be part of a dynamic and inclusive team.

- All training and induction for the role (there is no charge for training).
- Reasonable pre-agreed travel expenses for the role including for attending training.
