Embedded Hardware Engineer

Collins Aerospace seeks a Research Hardware Engineer in Cork, Ireland to develop advanced embedded systems for aerospace applications.

What You Will Do

• Architecture & Design: Define and lead the architecture and development of sophisticated embedded electronic systems with emphasis on processor architectures and custom acceleration engines.
• HDL Development: Lead RTL development, integration, and verification using SystemVerilog for complex digital designs.
• Hardware Acceleration: Design and implement custom hardware acceleration engines to meet demanding performance, safety, reliability, and operational constraints.
• Collaboration: Work closely with software/firmware engineers, system architects, and product teams to ensure seamless hardware software integration.
• Testing & Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans; use debugging tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to validate designs.
• Documentation & Standards: Create and maintain detailed design documentation; ensure compliance with industry standards such as DO 254, A(M)C A.
• Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical authority during design reviews and mentor other engineers on best practices.

Qualifications You Must Have

• PhD in Electronics Engineering with 0-2+ years of academic or industrial experience, or Master's degree with 2-5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with FPGA development and HDL design using Verilog, VHDL, or SystemVerilog.
• Familiarity with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.
• Working knowledge of RTL design, digital logic, and debugging techniques.
• Basic understanding of microcontrollers, embedded systems, or computer architecture.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross functional teams.
• Experience with SystemVerilog based verification methodologies.
• Experience with embedded software development in C/C++.
• Exposure to high speed digital design, signal integrity, and power management.
• Experience supporting hardware integration, testing, and troubleshooting in a lab environment.
