Electronic Test Engineer

The job of the Test engineer is to develop test requirements and test solutions to ensure high quality products are developed and manufactured. The applicant requires a strong electronics background and must be competent in fault finding complex electronic assemblies to component level. A methodical and structured approach to problem solving is required. We require an applicant who has good knowledge in the fundamentals of analogue, digital, power and embedded circuits.
- Work with different engineering disciplines to create robust requirements to maximise PCB Assembly test coverage.
- Work with different engineering disciplines to create robust requirements to prove designs meet customer requirements.
- Create test equipment to support verification testing and production testing.
- Create hardware and software solutions to deliver test solutions to a budget and timescale.
- Conduct test plans and produce written reports summarising if the PASS/FAIL criteria has been met.
- Create documentation to support manual testing of PCB assemblies and create documentation to support the introduction and verification of bespoke equipment designed by third party companies.
- Work closely with production to understand emerging issues and frame problems which need support from other engineering disciplines.
- Fault find complex electronic assemblies to component level. FPGAs, Embedded processors, Analog circuits, digital circuits and power electronics.
- Conduct root cause investigations for pattern trend failures identified by CEM or the internal production team.
- Run Design Verification test activities to support pre-compliance and qualification testing.
- Create Test requirements for testing new designs going into volume manufacture.
- Create Verification test plans to verify new designs.
- Create procurement specifications for third party companies to create ATE, bed of nail fixtures and other bespoke test platforms.
Skills & Experience
- A dynamic candidate with a good academic record.
- HNC qualified in Electronic Engineering or relevant engineering discipline.
- 2+ years of experience working in a production test environment.
- Ability to read schematics and identify different functional blocks.
- Ability to learn new PCB Assemblies using Schematics, requirements, PCB Assemblies and asking engineers for further information.
- Experience fault finding to component level and completing 8D Reports.
- Keen knowledge in electronics and IT.
- Strong analytical skills. Experience using Scripts, Macros or software to analyse data sets and present data.
- Practical hands on experience using Oscilloscopes, DVM's, PSUs and Function generators.
- Soldering skills and manufacturing knowledge of PCB assemblies.
- Experience testing complex PCB designs using a mixture of analogue and digital electronics.
- Strong communication skills. Experience talking to suppliers.
- DFM & DFT knowledge.
