Overview

Technical Director - Electrical (Data Centre Facilities), Nationwide, United Kingdom. We invite you to bring your expertise and enthusiasm into play as a senior member of a nationally integrated Data Centre Facilities team. You will be client focused with extensive experience in a design capacity and a strong working knowledge of electrical power systems associated with data centre design.

Join our Building Services department as a Technical Director with a focus on delivering high-profile data centre and mission critical projects in the UK and internationally. This role offers a collaborative culture, opportunities for rapid progression, and a path to influence our global electrical technical direction.

Your responsibilities
  • HV and LV power system design and specification for data centres and mission critical facilities, including technical peer reviews
  • Technical due diligence and feasibility studies for data centres
  • Develop detailed electrical SLDs using AutoCAD
  • Manage, prepare, and produce conceptual through to detailed designs of electrical systems
  • Produce associated electrical calculations, schedules, and specifications
  • Technical evaluation of electrical OEM/contractor equipment
  • Attend factory and site acceptance testing
  • Attend on-site during commissioning activities as required
  • Coordinate power system designs with internal and external stakeholders
  • Use proprietary design software (ETAP and Trimble) for short circuit, protection and coordination, arc flash studies, harmonic analysis, cable sizing and load flow
  • Model power systems using ETAP and produce technical reports
  • Electrical building services design including lighting, small power, containment, cable routing, fire detection, security, lightning protection and earthing
  • Apply advanced problem-solving skills to resolve project challenges
  • Protect and develop design quality; provide technical and pastoral mentoring to the electrical team
  • Communicate engineering concepts to internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other teams to optimise technical direction and standard procedures
  • Drive and deliver quality projects profitably and to client satisfaction
  • Manage technical risks, negotiate scope of services, and prepare fee proposals
  • Mentor and develop the Data Centre Electrical Engineering team
  • Contribute to business development in the local market
  • Support work-winning activities with technical strategies and market-leading expertise
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Data Centre Facilities team as part of a small leadership group
Key deliverables (first 12-24 months)
  • Develop and promote Ramboll's technical capability
  • Maintain excellent levels of client service
  • Expand the team's electrical design skills and improve efficiency in low and net zero carbon delivery
  • Attract talented recruits to grow a skilled Data Centre Facilities team
  • Support and contribute to the business plan in line with Ramboll's mission and values

  • Chartered Engineer with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; proven track record in leading and managing all aspects of project delivery (electrical bias)
  • Experience in data centre and mission critical design in the UK and Europe
  • Understanding of electrical distribution topologies for data centres and mission critical design
  • Flexible attitude and ability to meet deadlines in a changing environment
  • Knowledge of on-site installation practice and buildability
  • Experience coordinating all aspects of project delivery
  • Forward-thinking with interest in digital design innovation and smart design
  • Strong technical competence with an appreciation of sustainable/net zero carbon design
  • Extensive client-facing experience and ability to present to clients
  • Ability to motivate, support and guide multidisciplinary teams
  • Established reputation as a Data Centre Facilities leader
