Our Wales & Short Sea Ports division is comprised of 16 specialist ports across East Anglia, the North West and Scotland and Wales and the South West. Through these ports we handle a huge range of products and customers including cruise & ferries, timber, dry bulks, building materials and metals. We're currently looking to expand our regional Electrical Specialists and have created a new role for an experienced Electrical Engineer with some exposure to HV or Industrial 3-phase and LV works. Ideally you'll hold AP level qualification, moving towards SAP level, but we're equally keen to speak with people who have hands on background with switching, HV Maintenance, Distribution Board overhauls and Substation upgrades.

You can be based from any of our Wales and Short Sea Ports, but the majority of the team are based in South Wales. The role will involve a fluctuating level of travel, which will be dictated by project need - on average, this will equate to 3-4 nights away per month.

Accountabilities Of Role
- Undertake the assigned training in order to develop and document sufficient skills, knowledge and experience in order to succeed into the position of High Voltage Authorised Person.

- Act as an Authorised Person in connection with the Electrical Distribution Systems across the Wales & Short Sea ports region carrying out switching operations as necessary to safely facilitate planned maintenance of the network.

- To work with the port partners in order to plan and execute essential maintenance of the distribution network.

- To identify areas where the distribution systems require upgrading and managing the upgrades to ensure minimum disruption to ABP's operations and consumers.

- Overcome day-to-day engineering problems and develop long-term solutions for a variety of engineering applications in line with operational and budgetary constraints.

- Identify and prepare cost estimates for both present and future engineering works.

- Preparation of tender documentation and contract administration in line with company policies and procedures, agreed specifications and timescales controlling the outturn costs of the works.

- Maintain pace with safety related matters and new technical innovations in order to provide advice and support to the Electrical Asset Manager.


Skills & Experience
- Prior experience active as an Authorised Person (AP) on a high voltage distribution network.

- Thorough understanding of High Voltage and Low Voltage Distribution networks

- Recognised indentured Electrical apprenticeship

- Qualified to a Higher National Certificate (HNC) level with an Electrical bias

- A sound knowledge of port operation and infrastructure

- Trained to a minimum of an IOSH accredited course or equivalent with respect to safety

- Computer skills (Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook)

- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills

- Driving licence
