Position Summary

The EHS Advisor is responsible for supporting the EHS Manager and all Department Managers in ensuring that the organisation complies with all current and future EHS legislation. The role is also responsible for the promotion and maintenance of a safe working environment for all Colorcon employees, contractors and visitors. The position will be based in Dartford, UK, but may require occasional travel to other Colorcon sites in the EMEA region. This is a full time position, with flexibility over working hours.

Main Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and promotion of an EHS culture which supports our commitment to providing work conditions that are healthy and safe for both people and the environment.
  • Identify potential hazards in the workplace, conduct dynamic risk assessments, COSHH assessments and implement measures to mitigate these risks.
  • Participate in the Global Safety Executive Committee and represent the EMEA region.
  • Work as a business partner to line management, directing, supporting and promoting employees to contribute to the effectiveness of our EHS Management system, best practice and employee engagement on EHS topics. This includes active support and participation for facilities and other projects with EHS implications.
  • Support managers to demonstrate leadership in their areas on EHS topics.
  • Identify safety and environmental risks and aspects and work with all departments to mitigate them, supporting the integration of control measures into normal business practices.
  • Carry out inspections and internal audits to drive compliance against EHS legal requirements as well as internal requirements and KPIs.
  • Develop procedures and compliance programmes to further develop a culture of safety and environmental awareness.
  • Chair the local EHS Committee meeting when required.
  • Support, develop and deliver various training initiatives, including new hire induction and safety training, fire warden and first aider training, and create and deliver toolbox talks.
  • Support the safety program for contracted service providers who work on the site and ensure RAMS are reviewed and correct permits are issued.
  • Encourage the reporting of all EHS incidents and near misses and ensure that all are properly investigated and reported where necessary, including prevention solutions with corrective actions tracked to completion. Ensure data is trended to identify target areas and feedback is given to staff on reporting occurrences.
  • Manage Incident Log and electronic reporting system and generate accident statistics.
  • Assess EHS implications of proposed new materials, equipment and processes and current controls.
  • Monitor our EHS performance against agreed monitoring and measurements indicators.
  • Conduct DSE, maternity, occupational health, hearing and ad hoc assessments with a strong emphasis on maintaining confidentiality.
  • Support efforts to maintain and develop and review our Environmental Management standards, inline with ISO 14001 and the safety standard ISO 45001, ensuring and promoting continual improvement.
  • Perform any other duties as specified by the EHS Manager.
Measures of Performance
  • Accuracy of risk and environmental impact assessments.
  • Accuracy of incident data.
  • Timely delivery of training.
  • Demonstration of operating principles in daily activities.
  • Other objectives as set by the EHS Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be able to work as a business partner with line management, directing, supporting and promoting employees to contribute to the effectiveness of our EHS Management system, best practice and employee engagement on EHS topics. This includes active support and participation in facilities and other projects with EHS implications.
  • Demonstrated experience as an EHS Advisor for a minimum of 3 years within the pharmaceutical, food, chemical, manufacturing or engineering sectors.
  • Support the development of procedures and compliance programmes to further develop a culture of safety and environmental awareness.
  • Extensive experience conducting risk assessments including dynamic RAs and COSHH assessments for complex tasks.
  • Proven ability to conduct DSE, maternity, occupational health, hearing and ad hoc assessments with a strong emphasis on maintaining confidentiality.
  • Experience and working knowledge of ISO 14001 and 45001 standards, reviewing the management system for internal and external audits and being proficient in supplying evidence to auditing bodies.
  • Support, develop and deliver EHS training, creation and development of SOPs, and various training initiatives including new hire induction and safety training, fire warden and first aider training.
  • Experience in developing and delivering comprehensive training programs.
  • Support the safety program for contracted service providers on site, ensuring RAMS are reviewed and correct permits are issued.
  • Proven ability to interpret EHS legal requirements and effectively communicate their implications to staff at all levels.
  • Strong ability to prioritise and manage changing demands and workloads efficiently.
  • Proven diary management skills with strong logical and organisational abilities.
  • Exceptional written, oral and presentation skills.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate is required.
  • Demonstrable experience of EHS requirements within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to coach and assist people, resources and activities.
  • Demonstrable record of good communicative skills.
  • Computer literate - Excel, Word etc.
  • Good training/presentation skills.
  • Risk assessment/safety audit trained.

Annual Salary

£42,000.00 - £45,000.00 per annum
