Job Description

O'Neill & Brennan are currently working with a well established contractor that are seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Advisor to join their team in London.

The Role:

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor is responsible for developing and implementing health, safety, and environmental strategies across projects. This role is vital in promoting a positive safety culture and ensuring full compliance with statutory and internal standards, helping establish the company as an industry leader in EHS performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the EHS Manager/Lead and project teams in the implementation of safety management systems and procedures in line with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with operational teams to develop and monitor safe systems of work and risk assessments to ensure all project activities are well-planned and safely executed.

  • Conduct regular audits and inspections; track EHS performance metrics and ensure non-conformances are addressed promptly.

  • Promote a strong safety culture across all projects through leadership and influence.

  • Engage with site teams to identify and mitigate health, safety, and environmental risks; provide ongoing coaching and support.

  • Encourage and reinforce positive safety behaviours and practices among all workers.

  • Ensure projects operate in full compliance with statutory obligations and industry best practices.

  • Provide guidance on EHS matters throughout all project phases, from pre-construction through to completion.

  • Participate in project start-up meetings and contribute to project planning and execution strategies.

  • Implement and monitor the company's EHS policies, procedures, and management systems on site.

  • Support site management in communicating EHS requirements and delivering workforce inductions and ongoing briefings.

  • Offer expert advice and instruction to management, employees, and subcontractors on all EHS matters.

  • Assist in preparing documentation for EHS-related accreditations and audits.

  • Coordinate internal and external inspections/audits and ensure timely resolution of any findings.

  • Lead or support investigations into incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Produce accurate, high-quality reports for internal use and client requirements.

  • Identify EHS training needs and deliver relevant training to staff and subcontractors.

  • Champion a safe, healthy, and injury-free workplace as part of the company's overall mission.

  • Promote a professional, competent, and knowledge-sharing culture across all project teams.

  • Act as a point of contact with regulatory authorities and client representatives on EHS matters.

The Candidate:

  • Degree or third-level qualification in Environmental Health & Safety or a related field.

  • At least 3 years of experience working on large-scale construction or commercial projects.

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.

  • Detail-focused, self-driven, and proactive in approach.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Full, clean driving licence preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
