Early Years Room Leader - Prep School

About the RoleAs Room Leader, you will take overall responsibility for the pastoral care and developmental progress of all children in the two-year-old room. You will lead a small team, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning and care, while building strong relationships with families.
You will create a stimulating environment that encourages exploration and independence, supports individual learning journeys, and reflects children's interests and real-world experiences.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management
- Oversee the wellbeing and development of all children in the room
- Lead planning across the setting (termly, weekly and daily) to meet a wide range of needs
- Track children's progress using an online learning platform
- Manage staff rotas to ensure compliance with EYFS ratios
- Line manage and support team members, including CPD development
- Maintain strong communication with parents, including daily updates and responding to queries
Teaching & Learning
- Create a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment indoors and outdoors
- Support children's independence, creativity and curiosity
- Observe, assess and track progress, contributing to reports
- Promote positive behaviour and ensure children's safety and wellbeing
- Ensure all children feel included and supported to achieve their potential
Wider Contribution
- Work in partnership with parents and carers
- Contribute to safeguarding and uphold the school's values
- Attend key events such as open days, parents' evenings and school activities
- Support trips, visits and wider Early Years experiences
- Core hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, plus a proportional share of pastoral and organisational duties
- This is a term-time only position, with a full salary (not pro-rated)
- Attendance is required at all INSET days and key school events, including Open Mornings, Assessment Days, Settling In Days, Sports Day and Parents' Evenings
- Working hours and duties may vary in line with the needs of the school and at the discretion of the Head Master
- You may be required to undertake additional duties that are reasonable and appropriate to the role
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds a Level 3 Early Years qualification (full and relevant)
- Has strong knowledge of the EYFS framework and statutory requirements
- Understands safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Has excellent organisational and communication skills
- Is confident using IT systems and online learning platforms
- Holds (or is willing to obtain) Paediatric First Aid certification
