Job Description

Based on the site of Alwoodley Primary School in a former school annex that many years ago provided classrooms, our warm and welcoming Nursery has been converted to offer a homely and educational environment for children from birth to 5 years, our Funclub continues with care until age 11.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Childcare Apprentices who love caring for children and wishes to develop a career in early years' childcare and is committed to working with a great team of staff

Little People Alwoodley is looking for an individual who is keen to start in the childcare sector. Are you interested in looking after children and wish to gain a professional qualification and valuable experience in a friendly environment, ensuring high standards in all aspects of care and development in line with the EYFS?

As an apprentice you will be a key member of the nursery team, your duties may include:

  • Planning and delivering fun and educational activities with the children
  • Play alongside and with children to support their play
  • Contribute to children's records through observation
  • Assist with the supervision of children at rest times and at mealtimes
  • Contribute in creating a safe, happy environment for the children
  • Ensure the play area is clean and tidy at all times
  • Working alongside outside agencies in supporting the children
  • Useful Qualities to have

Total of 40 hours a week falling between 7.30am and 6.00pm, Monday - Friday. May involve some occasional weekend work. 16-18 years old will not be required to work over 8 hours per day.

Entry requirements
  • Good Maths- A-C (9-4) Grades in maths or equivalent is desired but not essential
  • Good English - A-C (9-4) Grades in English or equivalent is desired but not essential
  • Experience in childcare or early years is desired but not essential

Training to be provided

Apprenticeship qualifications are delivered in the workplace. You will be allocated a personal tutor who will provide you with personal tutorial support and assessment.

Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Diploma
  • Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)
  • On and off the job training

Progression to a higher level qualification or permanent employment may be available after completion of the apprenticeship.
