Drug and Alcohol Care Team MH Nurse

This post is a supportive role to help the mental health services break down the barriers between substance misuse and mental health. We know that significant of MH service users have substance missus issues too and we are keen to ensure that they receive continuity of care both in reach and outreach.
We want to see service users get the appropriate additions medication when on the ward and those that have not previously or not recently engaged with the community service, find their way into treatment.
Funding till 31st March 2027 and indicative funding for a further 2 years to 2029 when confirmed by DATRiG
Main duties of the jobAccess patients on the ward that have been identified as substance misuse users.
Liaise with DACT admin to review various systems to ascertain engagement or not.
Support ward staff to identify dependency and withdrawal symptoms, lead them to their own policies and SOP to provide medications as required.
Refer to community service and make introductions to external service as appropriate.

Job responsibilitiesThe Job description and personal specification will be attached as a separate document. it will outline daily , weekly and monthly requirements of the role and there will be outline of meetings to be attended.
There will be offer of flexible working to meet needs of Ward meetings and to accommodate data capture too.
Person Specification Qualifications- Registered Nurse Level 1 - Adult / General/Mental Health
- Undertake nurse medical prescriber course within the 18 month period
- Mentorship / teaching / assessing experience.
- Willing and able to work alone
- Can plan and organise own workload
- Ability to prioritise and organise own workload
- Ability to work in a challenging and diverse environment
- Phlebotomy / ECG / screening / wound closure/ IV management/an understanding of long term conditions
- Awareness of current healthcare issues.
- Awareness of clinical governance, risk management and quality agenda.
- Substance Misuse knowledge and understanding of dependency
- Understanding of local and national key documents and their impact on health care delivery
- Working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Experience of appraisal and clinical supervision
- Experience of using SystmOne
- Experience of working within a substance misuse service.
- Experience of health needs assessment/Triage
- Working to Patient Group Directives
- Practice Nurse / Chronic Disease Management / Minor Injuries experience
- Experience of relevant continuing professional development
