Dog Care Volunteer: Kennel Assistant & Enrichment

Many of the dogs in our care have never experienced life in a loving, family home. While waiting for a forever home, the animals receive all the care they need in our centres, and volunteer kennel assistants play a vital part under the direction of the centre managers.
As a kennel assistant you will care for dogs between placements, including feeding, cleaning, disinfecting kennels, preparing enrichment, and attending to exercise and grooming needs. You will work as part of a team, but must be able to work with minimal supervision and have knowledge of dog behaviour. Physical strength is required. Training will be provided.
You will meet new people and extend your compassion skills. All tasks follow current health and safety procedures. You must be aged 18 years or over.
What you will be doing- Preparing and providing food and water for the dogs in the kennels as directed by the centre staff.
- Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining kennels to a required standard of cleanliness.
- Attending to the exercise and coat care/grooming needs of the dogs.
- Following current administrative health and safety procedures in the centres and ensuring that they are observed in all aspects of work.
- Liaising with colleagues in the centres, branch staff and volunteers.
- Volunteers must be aged 16 or over - some centres may require you to be aged 18 years or over.
- Knowledge of dogs and ability to read their behaviour.
- Comfortable around dogs and a patient, understanding nature.
- Able to carry out physical tasks.
- Team player who can also work with minimal supervision.
