Documentation Officer - Microbiology

We are recruiting for a Documentation Officer to join an established microbiology laboratory based in Derbyshire.
This is a role combining quality, documentation and technical microbiology, making it an opportunity for an experienced laboratory microbiologist looking to move into a position with greater involvement in investigations, compliance, reporting and technical support.
Working within a GMP and ISO 17025 environment, you will support the day-to-day quality and compliance of the laboratory while remaining involved in microbiological testing when required.
The roleKey responsibilities will include:
- Managing and supporting quality event investigations, including non-conformances, OOS investigations, CAPAs, change controls, complaints and risk assessments
- Generating, reviewing and approving laboratory test reports
- Reviewing and authorising laboratory data
- Carrying out data trending and identifying potential issues or areas for improvement
- Preparing and reviewing SOPs, test methods and other controlled laboratory documentation
- Providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance to laboratory staff
- Supporting the scheduling and prioritisation of test samples
- Liaising directly with customers regarding technical and testing requirements
- Supporting microbiological testing and plate reading as required
- Ensuring laboratory activities are performed in accordance with GMP and ISO 17025 requirements
- Supporting customer visits and third-party events
We are looking for someone with:
- A degree in Life Sciences, Microbiology or a related discipline. BTEC or equivalent qualifications may also be considered alongside relevant experience
- Previous experience working within a microbiology laboratory to UKAS/GMP standards (either or both considered)
- A good understanding of laboratory quality and documentation requirements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- The confidence to provide technical support and communicate directly with customers
This position would particularly suit someone with microbiology testing experience and a quality focus, or someone looking to develop further within quality, compliance, investigations and laboratory documentation.
