This varied role combines providing an efficient and welcoming reception service with the safe and accurate dispensing of medicines, helping to deliver high-quality care to our local community.

Main duties of the jobTo be responsible for the safe and accurate processing of prescriptions in accordance with practice policy and current legislation. The post holder will help ensure a high-quality dispensing service is delivered while also providing a professional and efficient reception service to patients, visitors and healthcare professionals. Working as part of the wider multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care and support the day-to-day running of the practice in line with its strategic objectives.
About usCrick Medical Practice is a small rural GP practice located in the picturesque village of Crick, Northamptonshire. We currently have a list size of approximately 6,500 patients from Crick and the surrounding villages. We also have a branch surgery located in West Haddon.
Alongside our three Partners we have three salaried GP's, reception team, Pharmacy Team, Nurses and administration team.

Job responsibilitiesPrimary Responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispenser/Receptionist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
a.Dispensingmedicines to the entitled population safely and accurately
b.Maintainingstock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the dispensary manager tofacilitate reordering
c.Tobe responsible for checking all medicines dispensed, ensuring there are nodiscrepancies
d.Collectingprescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol
e.Receivingand storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chainis maintained where applicable
f.Ensuringcontrolled drugs are dispensed with in accordance with practice policy
g.Safedisposal of returned and / or out of date medicines
h.Ensuringall repeat prescriptions are processed within specified practice timeframe
i.Providingpatients with advice regarding all prescription matters
l.Assistingin the preparation of monthly returns
m.Alwaysmaintaining a clean and safe working environment
n.Maintainaccurate records at all times, read coding entries appropriately
o.Welcomepatients and visitors and deal with enquiries.
p.Manageappointments, registrations and patient records.
q.Answertelephone calls and take accurate messages.
r.Assistpatients with access to self-management education courses, peer support or interventionsthat support them to take more control of their health and wellbeing
s.Supportopening and closing procedures.
t.Manageall queries as necessary in an efficient manner
u.Providecover for annual leave and sickness where required.
Person Specification Experience- Experience of working with the general public and/or patients.
- Clear, polite and professional telephone manner.
- Ability to promote best practice in relation to dispensing and pharmaceutical procedures.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.

- Satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (arranged by the practice)
- Experience of working in a dispensing practice or dispensary.
- Experience of working in a primary care setting.
- Good understanding of General Practice and NHS primary care services.
- Experience of using EMIS Web.
- Experience of handling payments, including cash and card transactions.
- Knowledge of stock management, including ordering, stock rotation and disposal of medicines
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Qualified Dispenser (NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent).
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
