Title and Summary

Director of Software Engineering

Job Overview: This position requires extensive understanding and knowledge of software operations and services. Provides management direction, recommends strategic directions based on established policy, leads staff management, and ensures staffing, training, and objective setting. Interacts with developers and requestors to define project scope.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage software requirements and project planning.
  • Maintain approved staffing levels; oversee departmental and staff education, training, and cross-training needs.
  • Ensure staff has necessary skills and behaviors through effective communication of goals, objectives, performance, and improvement plans.
  • Develop, review, and implement policy changes with minimal disruption.
  • Review and approve operational processes and procedures.
  • Recommend annual budget and ensure expenditures stay within it.
  • Suggest strategic directions and policy changes.
  • Address operational and business concerns related to future programs, projects, or enhancements to ensure quality service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience, with exposure to management theories and concepts.
  • Experience in budget and financial management.
  • Experience delivering software solutions.
  • Proven ability to prepare and deliver executive presentations.
  • Experience mentoring and developing high-performance teams.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Translate complex technical issues into clear, actionable plans.
  • Advanced knowledge of business or functional areas.
  • Ability to lead and manage senior technical staff, fostering open communication.
  • Motivate teams to achieve high performance.
  • Provide guidance and recommend strategic or policy changes.
  • Interact across organizational levels and lead large or complex projects.
