Job overviewAre you a visionary leader with a passion for driving performance excellence across complex healthcare systems? Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an exceptional individual to lead our Delivery Unit as Director of Performance and Planning (fixed term, maternity leave cover).
This is a pivotal role at the heart of one of the UK's largest and most ambitious NHS Trusts. Reporting to the Chief Delivery Officer, you will lead the development and delivery of MFT's performance and planning agenda-ensuring we meet and exceed national standards while delivering outstanding care to our diverse communities.
You will be responsible for shaping and implementing the Trust's Delivery Oversight Framework, leading operational planning, and directly overseeing our cancer and urgent care coordination teams. Your leadership will directly influence how we manage capacity, reduce waiting times, and improve patient access across all MFT sites.
We are looking for a strategic thinker with a proven track record of senior leadership in the NHS, deep expertise in performance improvement, and the ability to inspire and engage clinical and operational teams. - Educated to degree level/equivalent professional qualification
- Masters Degree or Post Graduate qualification
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development
- Significant management and leadership experience at a senior level in the NHS.
- Previous experience as a director, in a healthcare environment
- Able to demonstrate success at the most senior level managing performance and delivery of key standards in a large complex organisation.
- Extensive specialist knowledge of performance management and improvement regimes, national reporting rules and guidance related to performance.
- Proven experience and ability in managing operational performance with tight financial constraints demonstrating effective budget management.
- Experience of capacity planning and translating organisation strategy and vision into operational objectives
- Demonstrate experience of building, maintaining and utilising successful relationships with all staff especially clinicians within complex organisations
- Knowledge of the strategic direction of the local health economy
- Experience of developing policies for implementation across the programme areas / organisation.
- Demonstrate strong and credible leadership in being able to pull people together and motivate them to deliver common aims and targets
- Highly effective communication skills - must be able to articulate complex issues to a wide range of recipients, both written and verbally
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to engage and influence diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills, with the ability to engage, build and sustain relationships both within the Trust and within external organisations.
- Able to demonstrate sound financial management skills and understand business centred approach to healthcare provision.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills to meet competing priorities.
- Able to take 'tough' decisions and calculated risks and see required action through.
- Demonstrates strong commitment to action to achieve equality and diversity in the NHS workforce and for the community
