Job Description
Director of Acting at Theatretrain High Wycombe
Permanent, part-time position based in High Wycombe
Creative freedom to direct students aged 6-18
Exciting Saturday work for acting professionals
Experience or qualifications in acting? Love working with young people? How would you like to join an innovative theatre training company as our Director of Acting?
Theatretrain has been around for 30 years in locations all across the UK. We are so much more than a performing arts school - we are a team-based professional theatre training company for young people. With us, you'll be able to pass _your _expertise on to our students. No curriculum to weigh you down and no two sessions the same!
Our aim is to give high-quality theatre training to children and young people, so that they can carry their newfound confidence, teamwork and imagination forth with them well into adulthood. We also create large-scale shows for our students to remember at iconic venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the London Palladium and Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
As Director of Acting at Theatretrain High Wycombe, you will lead our Saturday Main Company Group sessions from 10am - 1pm at Buckinghamshire New University, with the occasional extra rehearsal leading up to our big performances. You must be able to adapt your directing style to respond well to different groups - a one-size-fits-all approach just doesn't bring out the originality in our students. You should also have an all-rounder approach to performing arts - you must understand how and where theatre fits in not as a component that can be slotted in, but as an art that can't be distilled from the others.
If you're excited by the prospect of helping others grow up to share your passion for theatre, then this position is for you. Ideally you'll have
Experience of working with young people
Professional acting training with some professional experience
Great leadership skills that emulate patience and compassion, but also enthusiasm and energy for your craft
The ability to work from a stimulus/text and conceptualise original ideas working across different age groups to realise impactful performances
The ability to work with devised theatre, implementing different techniques and processes to best achieve this work
Flexibility to absorb the Theatretrain Way
An in-date DBS (or be happy to apply for one)
If you're ready to change lives every weekend, send your CV and a cover letter to We look forward to hearing from you!
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £22.50-£25.00 per hour
Benefits:
Free parking
On-site parking
Sick pay
Work Location: In person
Application deadline: 30/04/2025
