Location

Wakefield is one of the largest production facilities within Michael Foods. We serve as a flex plant and are able to produce everything from a whole pasteurized egg to liquid, dried, hardboiled and curds.

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly skilled and analytical Finance Director with strong functional skills and have demonstrated the capability to develop themselves and their staff for increased levels of responsibility. Proven leadership capabilities and the ability to develop high-performing teams. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, is a key member of the leadership team supporting the Egg Procurement and Farms Production operations.

This role is a leader within the Procurement & Farms teams providing strategic and tactical business support to guide and influence the business leadership in the achievement of the company's objectives. Integral to this position is understanding daily, weekly monthly operations with the ability to translate that knowledge into monthly outlooks, quarterly forecasts and an annual operating plan (financial & capital). Key understanding of agriculture & commodities (hedging/futures positions) which will help support customer strategies as well to stay compliant with GAAP. The position oversees capital projects for our internal farm operations. This position provides financial support for farm locations across five states.

This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead financial planning and develop financial strategies.
  • Analyze and report on financial performance with focus on accuracy, clarity & business relevance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies.
  • Develop models to plan, predict, record, allocate and understand egg costs for over one billion liquid egg pounds annually.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities for team members.
  • Provide business partners with both requested and unrequested advice and analysis to improve financial results.
  • Proactively monitor financial results to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting.
  • Drive preparation and presentation of the annual operating and capital plans and monthly financial projections.
  • Represent Procurement and Farms within the Finance leadership team to contribute to short- and long-term organizational planning and strategies.
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment and support a continuous improvement culture.
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis as required along with other duties as assigned.
  • Serve as a strategic and tactical leader within the Procurement & Farms teams to support business objectives and influence leadership decisions.
  • Understand daily, weekly, and monthly farm and procurement operations and translate insights into monthly outlooks, quarterly forecasts, and annual operating plans (financial and capital).
  • Apply strong knowledge of agriculture and commodity markets-including hedging and futures positions-to support customer strategies and ensure GAAP compliance.
  • Oversee capital projects for internal farm operations.
  • Provide financial leadership and support for farm locations across five states.
  • Accountable for a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
  • Adhere to Quality work practices, follow GMP's, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
Qualifications

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA, MBA, CMA a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of management and operational accounting experience.
  • Strong cost accounting and financial accounting background.
  • Experience with commodity risk management preferred.
  • Highly developed analytical, quantitative, and financial modeling skills with experience in management reporting, financial analysis, planning, and forecasting including the ability to connect operational details to the organization's broader objectives.
  • Strong organization, process and project management skills including attention to detail, proficient multi-tasking abilities, and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Results oriented, proactive and decisive with a high level of integrity and discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; with the ability to build strong business partnerships at all levels of the organization
  • Solid leadership skills, including ability to coach, motivate, influence, mentor and develop others.
