Job Description

This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Applicants required to work with a 5 year old boy with autism. These hours are specific and will be for 2 hours from 4:30pm to 6:30pm on a Monday to allow them to attend an inclusive mainstream football session within an enclosed football pitch.

This young person is very energetic and lively young person who always wants to be on the move and engaging in active ventures. They adore various topics like trains, cars and football and are very sociable and tactile with a lot of love to give to others. This young person will require constant supervision to ensure they are safe due to a reduced sense of danger awareness.

Applicants should be SEN trained and if possible be able to drive to take this young person the activity. Applicants need to be patient, lively and willing to be engaging.

About the role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Encouraging the recipient to engage in activities.
  • Helping to improve their social skills.
  • Settling and supporting the individual.
  • Keeping them safe in the community.
  • Helping to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
  • Attending/transporting the individual to social activities and appointments.
  • Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.
About the candidate

The suitable candidate must:

  • Be conscientious and committed to providing support as necessary for the child.
  • Be patient, caring and understanding.
  • Be able to build a positive relationship with the child to both encourage and support them.
  • Be flexible to meet the needs of the family.
  • Have knowledge of working with or supporting a child with special needs.

Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfil their potential and aspirations.

Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don't necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker, the right attitude and a person-centred approach is more important.

Travel

Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves.
