Job Description

This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Applicants wanted to work with a 11-year old boy with Autism and learning disabilities.

This young boy is very cheerful, sociable with lots of energy and wonder for the world, he is very sensory based and adores activities that allow him to fulfil these needs such as swimming, messy play and music. Music, wise he enjoys nursery rhymes like twinkle twinkle little star. He is very routine based so finds lots of comfort in consistency.

This young boy requires constant supervision due to his needs and behaviours such as putting inedible items in his mouth that he shouldn't and a strong attraction to water which could be a danger. He also has a short attention span so activities should be short and structured.

The applicant needs to have experience of with SEN. The applicant would also have to be comfortable with delivering personal care. They would have to be energetic, reliable and very consistent. They would have to be comfortable with potential personal care.

About the role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Encouraging the recipient to engage in activities.
  • Helping to improve their social skills.
  • Settling and supporting the individual.
  • Keeping them safe in the community.
  • Helping to fulfil their potential and aspirations.
  • Attending/transporting the individual to social activities and appointments.
  • Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.
Hours

4 hours per week term time and 10 hours per week in the holidays.

About the candidate

The suitable candidate must:

  • Be conscientious and committed to providing support as necessary for the child.
  • Be patient, caring and understanding.
  • Be able to build a positive relationship with the child to both encourage and support them.
  • Be flexible to meet the needs of the family.
  • Have knowledge of working with or supporting a child with special needs.

Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfil their potential and aspirations.

Whilst caring experience is always useful, you don't necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker, the right attitude and a person-centred approach is more important.

Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves.
