Job Description

Company: INTERA, IC Design Unit

Position: Digital IC Design Engineer - ASIC Flow

Location: Barcelona

As part of the INTERA Group, NVISION and SENSING & CONTROL lead IoT-focused R&D from concept to market. Our IC Design Unit is a key driver of innovation, delivering cutting-edge integrated circuits across diverse domains including Digital Health, Smart Energy, Smart Buildings, Logistics, and Industrial Systems. We take pride in producing IC designs that meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and reliability.

We are currently looking for an experienced and technically skilled engineer to strengthen our Edge Computing team. The ideal candidate will bring the expertise to carry our RTL code through the full ASIC design and implementation process. By joining our IC Design Unit, you'll become part of a dynamic, forward-thinking team committed to technical excellence and pioneering innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, debug and optimize RTL code (Verilog/VHDL) for digital integrated circuits targeting edge computing applications (DSP and AI oriented).
  • Integrate HW accelerators (memory-mapped interfaces and custom instructions) on RISC-V systems.
  • Develop RISC-V firmware and low-level drivers (Embedded C) to test HW accelerators and peripherals
  • Drive the RTL-to-GDSII flow, ensuring successful integration of RTL code into tape-out-ready ASICs
  • Collaborate with system architects and digital designers to optimize microarchitectures for performance, area, and power.
  • Manage synthesis, static timing analysis (STA), formal verification, and logic equivalence checking (LEC)
  • Interface with backend teams on floorplanning, place and route (P&R), and DFT
  • Support lab bring-up and silicon validation of fabricated chips
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of internal IC design methodologies and flows

Required Profile and Skills

We are seeking a talented, motivated, and detail-oriented IC engineer who is passionate about ensuring the quality and reliability of integrated circuit designs. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog, Verilog, and other hardware description languages.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard EDA tools (e.g., Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor Graphics).
  • Familiarity with low-power design techniques, DFT, and physical design constraints.
  • Knowledge of SoC integration and verification flows is a plus.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl, TCL) for automation purposes.
  • Advanced knowledge of at least one Hardware Description Language, preferably System Verilog.
  • Experience working through the ASIC Digital Design Flow: specifications definition, RTL verification, synthesis, power estimation.
  • Good knowledge of modern CPU architectures (preferably RISC-V) and micro-architectures.
  • Embedded C for driver and firmware development.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented approach.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments.
  • Initiative to improve internal processes and flows.

Other desirable skills:

  • Open-source development tools experience: Linux, GitHub, Makefiles, Python, etc.
  • FPGA prototyping with EDA tools and platforms such as Xilinx/Altera or similar.
  • AI theoretical/practical knowledge.
  • RTOS and Embedded Linux experience.
  • UVM theoretical/practical knowledge.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a highly skilled team developing next-generation edge computing solutions
  • Work on impactful projects in fields such as digital health, smart infrastructure, and industrial automation
  • Work with state-of-the-art tools and a full ASIC design environment
  • Flexible working conditions and opportunities for continuous learning
  • A collaborative, innovative, and mission-driven culture

INTERA actively fosters a culture of gender equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout our hiring, compensation, and career development processes. We cultivate a workplace where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to achieve their full potential.
