DevOps Engineer

As a DevOps Engineer, you will be the key point of contact managing and maintaining AWS infrastructure that supports critical healthcare systems. This role requires a proactive, independent engineer who can oversee daily operations, automate processes for improved efficiency, and bridge the gap between development and support teams to ensure smooth deployments and optimal system performance.
Ideal candidates have solid AWS experience (2-3 years) with EC2, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and security compliance-experience in regulated environments is a plus. You'll have the opportunity to scale and optimize infrastructure while supporting ongoing performance monitoring and security initiatives.
What you'll be doing Infrastructure Management- Oversee and maintain AWS infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance
- Manage core AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, VPCs, load balancers, and backup solutions
- Monitor system health through AWS CloudWatch and other tools like New Relic
- Respond to incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and coordinate with development and support teams
- Automate routine tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual work
- Serve as the primary contact for AWS infrastructure within the technical team
- Work closely with development and support teams to ensure smooth deployments and troubleshooting
- Diagnose issues by analyzing logs and system metrics, escalating when needed
- Support annual penetration testing and implement security best practices to maintain NHS data compliance
- Participate in daily stand-ups and work with technical leads to prioritize tasks
- Identify ways to scale and optimize the AWS environment as system usage grows
- Evaluate and recommend better monitoring and performance management tools
- Document infrastructure configurations, processes, and incident reports clearly
- Provide regular updates on infrastructure status, projects, and potential risks to management
- Help develop infrastructure architecture and long-term strategic plans
- Proven experience managing AWS infrastructure in production environments
- Strong knowledge of key AWS services: EC2, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, and AWS Backup
- Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting for better efficiency
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as New Relic and AWS APM solutions
- Understanding of security best practices, including penetration testing and compliance
- Ability to troubleshoot infrastructure issues independently and work effectively with teams
- Excellent communication skills for clearly explaining technical problems and solutions
- Self-motivated team player with a humble attitude who can adapt to regulated environments
- Comfortable working remotely with daily virtual stand-ups and occasional in-person meetings
- Based in the UK due to data policy requirements, with fully remote work arrangements
