Design Tutor (0.15 FTE)

Role Overview

Environmental Design Tutor sits within the Institute of Environmental Design and Engineering, part of the Bartlett School of Energy, Environment and Resources. The tutor works with fellow tutors from structural engineering and architecture to deliver high quality, design studio based teaching to Year3 and Year4 students within vertical units.

Teaching Responsibilities

• Deliver high quality teaching across designated design modules.
• Develop and deliver relevant teaching material, complying with current CIBSE and programme accreditation requirements.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer and promote new ideas in specialist areas of the built environment.
• Prepare tutorials, briefs and associated teaching materials.
• Set and mark assignments.
• Handle administration such as record keeping and student feedback.
• Attend portfolio reviews, assessment panels and examination boards.
• Foster and promote a healthy and collaborative studio culture working with colleagues in BSA and CEGE.
• Take on additional commitments as agreed between the course director, module coordinators and tutors.

Enabling Responsibilities

• Liaise with Programme Directors and Module Coordinators (Design Practice1,2 and3) to contribute to programme development, student experience and module examination, including programme meetings, cross unit critiques, interim reviews, field trip activity, summer show preparation and programme/school induction.
• Attend relevant IEDE and UCL training as required.
• For Design Practice2 &3: attend Thursdays (Term1,2 &3) for group and 1:1 design tutorials, with a greater time commitment before key submissions (to be agreed with module lead and Programme Director).
• Provide SEADS (Structural Environmental Architectural Design Skills) classes on one MondayAM or WednesdayAM per academic year.
• Marking and assessment occur over Term1,2 &3.
• Conduct enabling and preparatory work outside these times to meet deadlines.
