An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and experienced Deputy Pharmacy Production Manager to join our innovative Pharmacy Production unit at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust (UHBW)! We are a diverse unit that holds 'Specials' and Investigational Medicinal Product (IMP) licences, is MHRA accredited and carries out aseptic dispensing of products under Section 10 exemption and Pharmacist supervision!
As the Deputy Pharmacy Production Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, efficacy, and compliance of pharmaceutical products which are manufactured at UHBW Trust. This is a unique opportunity that works alongside Pharmacists, Technicians and Scientists to contribute to the advancement of healthcare and make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.
There are a number of exciting developments in the pipeline, providing you the opportunity to further develop and enhance your skills!
Main duties of the job Working as the Deputy Pharmacy Production Manager to support the Associate Director of Pharmacy - Production in leading the Pharmacy Production Unit and providing highly specialist Pharmacist input; to maintain and progress operations, quality management systems and people services within the unit. The unit holds 'Specials' (MS) and Investigational Medicinal Product licenses MIA(IMP) as well as dispensing medicines under Section 10 exemption of The Medicines Act.
The unit prepares the following product types: CIVAS, Monoclonal Antibodies, Investigational Medicinal Products, ATMPs, aseptic batches, non-sterile batches and extemporaneous preparations. The unit also provides a dispensing service for outsourced unlicensed products such as Total Parenteral Nutrition.
The role requires operational involvement in all aspects of the department as well as participation as an Authorised Pharmacist in the supervision, checking and release of products prepared and dispensed in the department.
The post-holder will be the departmental lead for Clinical Trials and Investigational Medicinal Products and will work closely with the unit's in-house Quality Assurance Team in implementation of new products, processes, systems and equipment, and well as maintaining all aspects of the unit's Quality Management Systems.

Person specification Qualifications
- Postgraduate Diploma or Masters degree in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance or equivalent experience
- Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist
- Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- Extensive experience of working in a hospital pharmacy technical services department
- Previous experience in a GMP environment
- Experience of qualification and validation as applied to EU GMP
- Prior experience of Clinical Trials and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Experience in manufacture and dispensing of aseptic and non-sterile IMPs
- Managing staff on a day-to-day basis
- Experience in training staff, setting objectives and delivering appraisals
- Experience of external regulatory inspections
- Experience of clean room design and specification
- Experience of specialised equipment used in pharmaceutical production including the use of automation
- Experience of managing budgets and financial reporting
- Experience of using electronic prescribing systems
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of Quality systems, GMP, current professional standards and legislative requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to act independently and provide professional advice covering a range of issues
