An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered health professional to apply for a 12-month secondment for the role of Deputy Head of Healthcare based at HMP Birmingham. This role sits within our Offender Health Service which forms part of Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. This involves delivering a model of integrated healthcare across partnership working with Birmingham Community Health Care (BCHC) and Cranstoun.
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT) is one of the largest providers of secure care and offender health services in the country. Alongside working for BSMHFT, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with neighbouring organisations to ensure a comprehensive package of care is delivered to our service users.

Main duties of the jobThe post holder will embrace multi-disciplinary working and work as a key member of the MDT; you will also be required to represent the service at key forums and meetings.
Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills will be required for this post and you will need to be able to work effectively both on your own initiative and as part of the team.

Job responsibilitiesThe post holder will work in partnership with the Head of Healthcare and other senior colleagues to monitor, challenge and improve the quality of patient care within the prison services. You will need a sound knowledge of the national legislation in relation to prison services and mental health.
You will be expected to offer overall professional leadership and management to all staff within the teams that make up the Prison Healthcare service, to manage and coordinate staff and clinical activity and have overall responsibility for the professional development and supervision of practice. You will provide specialist practical advice on the care and clinical management of users of the services and to support staff, other agencies and other statutory services to provide integrated services to enable improved health and well being outcomes for service users.
Person Specification Experience- Substantial Band 7 experience
- Significant operational/ team management and leadership experience
- Proven track record of crisis, serious incident management in health care setting
- Experience of working in a forensic setting
- Quality assurance or management qualification
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
