Deputy Head of English - About the Role
The successful candidate will support the Head of English in the strategic leadership of the department, ensuring high-quality teaching, strong outcomes and an engaging, inclusive curriculum. You will contribute to the development of departmental initiatives, lead key areas of teaching and learning, and play a vital role in maintaining a culture of high aspiration.
Deputy Head of English - Key Responsibilities
Support the Head of English in the leadership and management of the English department
Lead on curriculum development, assessment and teaching strategies across KS3 and KS4 (and KS5 where applicable)
Model outstanding classroom practice, fostering a positive learning environment
Use data effectively to monitor progress, identify underachievement and plan impactful interventions
Support and mentor colleagues, contributing to professional development across the department
Promote high standards of literacy, engagement and progress for all students
Play an active role in departmental quality assurance, including lesson observations and book monitoring
Deputy Head of English - The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
QTS and strong experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
A track record of excellent classroom practice and strong pupil outcomes
Experience contributing to curriculum planning or leading aspects of a department
The ability to inspire, motivate and support colleagues
Strong organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively
A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and high expectations for all learners
