Job Description
Overview

Defendant EL, PL, and Casualty Solicitor - Local Government Leicester 1 Year PQE +. This role offers a genuinely varied defendant litigation caseload, defending public sector organisations in Employers' Liability (EL), Public Liability (PL) and casualty claims within a leading Local Government litigation team. The work provides exposure to a broad range of litigation, developing technical expertise across multiple areas and avoiding pigeonholing into one type of claim.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a varied caseload of defendant personal injury matters, primarily EL, PL and Highways claims.
  • Handle predominantly fast-track litigation, with the opportunity to work on multi-track matters depending on experience.
  • Gain exposure to property damage, social care and data protection claims, broadening litigation experience.
  • Conduct liability investigations and progress claims from inception through to resolution.
  • Liaise with clients, witnesses, experts, counsel, the courts and opposing solicitors.
  • Draft witness statements, legal documents and detailed reports.
  • Attend client meetings, conferences and court hearings where required.
  • Work collaboratively with experienced colleagues while taking ownership of own files.
  • Support business development initiatives and help maintain strong client relationships.
You
  • A qualified Solicitor with experience in defendant personal injury, casualty or insurance litigation.
  • Experience handling EL, PL and/or Highways claims.
  • Confident managing own caseload.
  • A solid understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).
  • Strong drafting, analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Organised, proactive and able to prioritise a busy workload.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • A genuine interest in developing a broad and varied defendant litigation practice.
