Job Description
Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure continual access to our customers. You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver high standards for safety and security while providing scalable capacity at low cost. AWS is looking for a detail-oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team, which maintains the critical physical infrastructure that supports AWS and ensures data center MEP operates at 100% availability with excellent customer service.

As the Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Chief Engineer (CE), you will ensure that electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment operates at peak efficiency, through planned maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response. You will report to the site Data Center Facility Manager, interact with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and third-party vendors, and serve as the singular focal point for all facility operations within a given data center. Data center equipment supporting mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime.

You will manage small-to-medium projects from conception to completion, collaborating with engineering, automation, processing, and finance teams in local and global settings. You will create and deliver milestones, obtain and track quotes for costs, and document project results for future implementation at other facilities. The role aims to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in facilities.

You will direct, train, and support Engineering Operations Technicians in electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations, including site/equipment-specific training exercises. Equipment includes standby diesel generators, switchgear, UPS, PDU, AHU, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Troubleshoot and report facility and data center-level events within internal SLA.
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and Amazon staff.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows.
  • Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
Basic Qualifications

  • Industrial or data center related engineering experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  • Please apply with your CV in English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years of technical training/experience with data center facilities equipment, with 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid leadership and organizational skills.
