Job Description
Data Engineering Lead ( 16178 )
Description
We're looking for a Data Engineering Lead to join the Technology team at easyJet holidays lead on building our new Operational Data Platform.
The platform will bring together real-time data from across all our systems and services. You'll be setting up the structure, shaping how it works, and making sure it runs smoothly from the start.
Reporting into the Head of Data, you will be given the space and responsibility to make this your own. That includes building and leading your own team, deciding how best to get things done, and making use of third-party developers when needed.
You'll design the operational data model, build the platform, and create the workflows to help developers across the business get what they need from it and making sure it's usable, dependable and easy to contribute to.
You'll work closely with colleagues in analytics, architecture, and engineering to keep everything aligned, but you'll also have the freedom to take a different approach if it makes strategic sense.
As part of the Data Leadership team you'll be coaching others, guiding your team through personal development, and helping the wider team grow their skills and confidence. You'll also make sure the platform stays compliant, meets governance standards, and is cost effective and scalable. You'll look after tooling, processes, and priorities so the right things get delivered in the right way.
What you'll bring to the team:
We're looking for somebody with solid experience of building and running bespoke OLTP systems with a focus on high concurrency and reliability. You'll be familiar with a range of SQL and NoSQL databases such as Postgres, CockroachDB, MongoDB or DocumentDB, and know when to use which.
You'll be confident leading projects and platforms, managing different resources and priorities, but also comfortable rolling up your sleeves and contributing directly to the work.
You'll have worked with streaming technologies and know how to bring together data from all kinds of sources, whether that's batch files or real-time streams. You'll have set up and worked with ETL and ELT tools like Dagster, AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, Airflow or dbt, and you can decide what tools are right for the job.
You'll have an understanding of how Node.js and TypeScript fit into a modern development environment and can speak the same language as the broader dev team. You know how to build and maintain APIs and other developer friendly data interfaces that make data easy to access and use.
You'll have experience with AWS based tooling and know your way around cloud based data solutions.
Finally, you'll have led technical teams before and know how to manage people with different skill sets and goals.
What's in it for you:
In addition to your competitive base salary, we offer an all-inclusive benefits package which includes our company-wide bonus scheme and a 7% pension contribution. We offer a variety of share options and life assurance, and we have an impressive range of flexible benefits that you can tailor to your needs.
