Data Center Engineer
Posted 4 hours 8 minutes ago by Circle B
Who we are-
Founded in 2012, Circle B is a specialist in Open Compute Project (OCP) hardware solutions. We build and deliver high-efficiency, scalable IT infrastructure, either shipped to our customers for on-premises deployment or integrated into our own datacenter environment. Our work supports organizations that need performance, energy efficiency, and flexibility at scale.
Circle B is part of the Taurus Group, a collective of innovative technology companies. This includes:
- A leading hardware distribution company, giving us strong supply chain control and direct access to manufacturers
- A high-performance computing (HPC) company, whose infrastructure we help manage
- An IT renewal and refurbishment company
- A software development firm
- We operate cross-functionally from a shared office and are currently constructing a new purpose-built facility. This highlights our long-term commitment to growth and innovation.
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Junior Datacenter Technician to join our infrastructure team. You will work directly with to our lead datacenter engineer and support both internal deployments and client-facing hardware builds. This is a physically active, highly structured role where attention to detail and teamwork are essential.
What You Will Do
On a typical day, you may:
- Review and update support tickets in our system (Freshservice)
- Troubleshoot and inspect hardware for issues
- Assemble and install servers, cables, and network devices
- Label, rack, and cable hardware according to SOPs
- Manage storage areas and audit inventory levels
- Track RMAs and handle decommissioning of equipment
- Support internal and customer projects involving cabling, labeling, and quality checks
As you build experience, you will gradually take on more independent tasks such as inventory tracking and solo troubleshooting during team absences. You will receive full training and mentoring throughout this process.
Working Style That Works Well Here
At Circle B, we value a thoughtful and reliable approach to technical work. This role involves handling critical infrastructure, so care, precision, and clear communication are essential. We appreciate colleagues who pay attention to detail, ask questions when unsure, and enjoy learning by doing.
There is plenty of room to grow in this role. At the same time, the environment is structured. Following procedures, documenting your work, and staying organized are all important to the way we operate. We support each other, including helping new team members get up to speed, so a collaborative mindset is key.
Growth Opportunities
This is a foundational position with a clear growth path. With initiative and experience, you will have the opportunity to:
- Take ownership of technical domains such as hardware inventory or inspection processes
- Gain experience with hyperscale infrastructure and modern datacenter technologies
- Collaborate with other technical teams across the Taurus Group, including system administration, development, and hardware operations
- Deepen your expertise within datacenter operations or explore related paths such as system administration, network operations, or infrastructure automation, depending on your interests and strengths.
We actively support internal mobility and long-term development.
What We Are Looking For-
Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of computer hardware and troubleshooting
- Networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP
- Experience with UTP and fiber optic cabling
- Familiarity with server racking, labeling, and physical setup
- Basic Linux or Windows administration skills
- Exposure to monitoring tools such as Zabbix or Grafana
- Familiarity with a ticketing system like Freshservice or Jira
Soft Skills:
- Strong communication and documentation habits
- Calm under pressure and focused on quality
- Collaborative and open to feedback
- Follows procedures carefully and escalates when unsure
- Detail-focused and physically capable of lifting equipment (up to 25 kg)
Education and Certifications (Preferred to have):
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- A degree or certification in IT, Networking, or Electronics is preferred
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, or CCNA are considered a plus
- Experience:
- One year of experience in a technical support, IT, or lab environment is ideal
- Internships or hands-on hobby experience will also be considered
- Other Requirements:
- Valid B-category driver's license
- Fluency in English
- Working with OCP Hardware
If you are used to working with traditional 19-inch rack systems, OCP may feel a little different at first. Here are a few of the key differences:
- OCP uses a 21-inch rack design
- Modules are front-access and tool-less
- Compute, storage, and networking components are modular and separate
- Power is delivered centrally through shared 12V or 48V busbars
- Designed for scale-out environments with front-to-back airflow
You do not need prior OCP experience. We will teach you everything you need to know.
