As part of our continued growth, we are now seeking an experienced Dairy Unit Supervisor to join our progressive farm team. This is a key leadership role that will suit someone who is confident in managing people and farm operations, but who also values continued learning and development in a forward thinking environment.
Role OverviewAs Dairy Unit Supervisor, you will play a central role in leading daily farm operations, managing a team of seven farm employees, and contributing to farm administration and strategy. You will be responsible for the smooth running of the milking process, livestock performance, team development, and compliance with all regulatory standards.
As part of our ongoing investment in farm infrastructure, the Dairy Unit Supervisor will play an active role in planning and preparing for the installation of a new rotary parlour. This will include contributing to the design layout, workflow optimisation, and equipment selection to ensure the parlour meets the long term needs of the farm. Your practical insights and day to day experience will be essential in helping shape a modern, efficient milking facility that supports animal welfare, staff efficiency, and overall productivity.
You will also work closely with the leadership team, nutritionists, suppliers, and contractors to drive ongoing farm improvement. This role includes structured support and opportunities for further training and leadership development.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and oversee the daily operations of the farm, including milking routines, animal health, and feeding.
- Manage, train, and mentor a team of five farm employees to ensure high performance and professional development.
- Oversee and improve stock recording using modern digital software.
- Ensure full compliance with H&S, Department of Agriculture and Bord Bia regulations.
- Work closely with feed nutritionists to optimise feeding strategies, including involvement in diet feeding as required.
- Collaborate with external suppliers and contractors to maintain operational efficiency.
- Contribute to the farm's administration, planning and reporting functions.
- Engage in continuous professional development and contribute ideas for farm advancement.
- Report to and work in partnership with the leadership team to align day to day operations with long term goals.
- Minimum 2 3 years experience in a senior dairy farming role or equivalent.
- Strong leadership and people management skills with a proven ability to train and guide a team.
- Proficiency in grassland management.
- Experience with livestock software and farm record systems.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and mobile apps.
- Strong communication and problem solving skills.
- High standards for animal welfare and farm safety.
- A full, clean driving licence is essential.
