Cyber Security Engineer

Cyber Security Engineer needed urgently for our not-for-profit client based in Edinburgh. The right candidate must have strong Cyber Security knowledge and experience, including familiarity with common backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) processes along with experience working within Windows Server environments.

Candidates must engage via an FCSA accredited Umbrella Company and requires candidates to work at least 1 day per week onsite in Edinburgh, though the rest of each week can be worked remotely.

Our client is looking for a strong Cyber Security Engineer for an initial 2-month engagement to help them with two projects.

The first is a Backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) Review and Enhancement. The successful candidate will work closely with the existing infrastructure team to conduct a review of the existing backup and disaster recovery processes, evaluating current capabilities, identifying gaps, and aligning with industry best practices to ensure robust data protection and rapid recovery in the event of data loss or a cyber incident. This will involve updating or developing comprehensive documentation to support business continuity and disaster recovery readiness. In addition, the candidate will assess the performance and design of our current failover/DR site and lead the implementation of necessary improvements to strengthen overall system resilience.

The second project involves a Cyber Security Posture Review and Cyber Essentials Plus Preparation. This will involve being responsible for evaluating and improving their current cybersecurity posture in preparation for an upcoming Cyber Essentials Plus certification renewal. The successful candidate will perform a hands-on review of user and endpoint security, server and infrastructure patching, and update management practices. Working in tandem with the infrastructure team, the candidate will help identify areas for enhancement, remediate vulnerabilities, and ensure that the security policies and controls meet the rigorous standards required for certification.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Cyber Security Engineer to help a medium sized not-for-profit organisation with a review of their current DR and Cyber practices.
