Job Description
Criminal Solicitor (3+ PQE)

Newcastle upon Tyne Full-Time

I'm currently working with a well-established, full-service North East law firm that is looking to appoint a Criminal Solicitor to join its growing Crime Team.

Due to continued growth, they are expanding their Criminal Law offering and are keen to speak with ambitious and client-focused solicitors.

The Role

This opportunity would suit a solicitor with 3+ years' PQE in Criminal Law (although this is a guide and those with slightly less experience are encouraged to apply).

You will report directly to the Head of Department and play an integral role in delivering high-quality, practical legal advice to both new and existing clients. You will manage your own diverse caseload while also supporting the Partner and wider team on a variety of matters.

Responsibilities
  • Representing clients across the criminal justice system, including at police stations, the Magistrates' Court and Crown Court
  • Advising clients, reviewing evidence and documentation, conducting research and preparing cases
  • Attending police stations and prisons to take instructions and advise clients
  • Drafting legal documents and preparing robust and compelling defences
  • Managing and progressing your own caseload efficiently and proactively
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case files in line with compliance and data protection requirements
  • Accurately recording time (chargeable and non-chargeable) and working towards monthly financial targets
  • Supporting business development initiatives to raise your profile and that of the team
About You

The firm is looking for a motivated and technically strong practitioner who thrives in a fast-paced and client-facing environment.

Ideal Qualifications
  • Qualified Solicitor (or experienced fee earner) with strong Criminal Law experience
  • Qualified Duty Solicitor status (highly desirable)
  • Police Station Accreditation (desirable)
  • Higher Rights of Audience in the Crown Court (desirable but not essential)
  • A proven track record of delivering high-quality advice and achieving positive client outcomes
  • The ability to manage a varied caseload independently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A collaborative approach, working closely with colleagues and support staff
  • A willingness to engage in supervision, ongoing development and business development activities
  • Good working knowledge of IT systems and case management
What's on Offer
  • Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
  • Excellent benefits package
  • Supportive and friendly working environment
  • The opportunity to join a growing and reputable Crime Team

If you're a Criminal Solicitor looking to join a respected North East firm where you can genuinely make an impact and further develop your career, I'd be delighted to speak with you in confidence.
