We are currently recruiting for a Cover Supervisor to join a specialist SEN school in the Tunbridge Wells area, supporting young people aged 11-19.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and is confident managing a classroom environment. You will provide classroom cover in the absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged with their learning and receive the support they need throughout the school day.
The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
Key Responsibilities- Supervise classes during teacher absence and ensure work set by teaching staff is completed.
- Provide clear instructions and help students remain engaged and focused.
- Support pupils with a range of SEN and additional learning needs.
- Promote positive behavior and maintain a calm, structured classroom environment.
- Provide additional one-to-one or small-group support where required.
- Work closely with teachers, Teaching Assistants and the wider SEN team.
- Support students with their communication, independence and social development.
- Follow safeguarding, behavior and school policies always.
We would be interested in hearing from candidates with experience in areas such as:
- Cover supervision or classroom support
- Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant work
- SEN or specialist education
- Youth work or mentoring
- Residential or care settings supporting young people
- Sports coaching or other roles involving responsibility for groups of young people
Previous experience within an identical SEN school setting is not essential. Candidates with strong transferable experience and the confidence to work with young people with additional needs are encouraged to apply.
You should be patient, resilient and confident establishing appropriate boundaries while developing positive relationships with students.
Requirements- Experience working with children or young people is highly desirable.
- Confidence supervising groups of secondary-aged students.
- A genuine interest in supporting young people with additional needs.
- Strong communication and behaviour-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Successful applicants will be subject to the relevant safeguarding and pre-employment checks.
