Job Description
Overview

I am working with a leading Social Welfare law firm in London seeking a Court of Protection (Welfare) Solicitor with at least one year post-qualification experience. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded team specialising in community care, housing, and public law, recognised in Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.

The Role

You will primarily focus on Court of Protection cases, representing clients via litigation friends, family members, and, in some cases, directly. There will also be opportunities to gain experience in community care, housing, and public law matters, working alongside a supportive and highly experienced team. The firm has strong referral networks through local charities, NGOs, and is often instructed by the Official Solicitor, giving you the opportunity to work on meaningful cases and develop this area of practice. Experience of privately-funded work is a plus, and familiarity with Legal Aid and CCMS is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of Court of Protection cases, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
  • Advise clients on legal matters and proposed courses of action.
  • Draft correspondence, negotiate, and advocate where appropriate.
  • Ensure all casework is billed accurately and promptly, including Legal Aid cases.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legal developments.
  • Support team members through supervision and collaborative work.
Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 1 year PQE in Court of Protection (Welfare) work.
  • Experience representing clients via litigation friends/family members.
  • Ability to prioritise and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Experience with Legal Aid funding and CCMS.
  • Commitment to maintaining access to justice.
Benefits
  • Up to 30 days holiday (with service).
  • Bonus scheme and career development programme.
  • Comprehensive training, supervision, and support.
  • Cycle to work scheme, health cashback plan, wellbeing initiatives.
  • Substantial Friends & Family discount on legal services.
  • Length of service awards, staff forums, and committees.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected team, work on impactful cases, and grow your Court of Protection practice.
