The Counselling Service at the University of Aberdeen was founded in the 1980s and is part of the University's Student Support Services.It is a busy service and is located in an old granite house surrounded by a garden in the heart of Old Aberdeen. The service offers confidential counselling to a population of approximately 16,000 students with personal or work-related issues which are causing them concern or emotional distress.
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a part-time Counsellor, working three days a week over 32 weeks per year (ideally Wednesday - Friday). The post will be based at the dedicated counselling premises at Dunbar Street in Old Aberdeen, with potential opportunities to work at the Foresterhill campus.
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Counsellor to offer individual counselling to students and staff at the university. You will also be required to work with groups, delivering workshops and wellbeing and psychoeducational presentations. You will be expected to liaise with other members of the Counselling Service team, as well as with other Student Support staff within the University, and to participate in team meetings, conferences and training events. You will also be required to uphold professional standards, adhering to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework, as well as keeping service records and attending monthly supervision.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 scale, £38,784 - £46,049 per annum, and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
