The Company

Our client is a well-established, family owned manufacturer specialising in high performance machinery for the packaging and print finishing sectors. With a strong international presence across Europe, North America, and various global markets, they continue to push boundaries in automation and mechanical innovation. Due to ongoing expansion and a commitment to engineering excellence, they are seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to strengthen their technical team.

The Opportunity

In this role, you'll be at the heart of developing the control architecture for bespoke, one off machines. This is a position for an engineer who excels in a special purpose / discrete manufacturing environment-not process or batch based industries. You'll be designing, refining, and supporting control systems across the full project lifecycle, ensuring exceptional machine performance and user friendly operation.

You'll work closely with colleagues in mechanical engineering, software, production, and customer service, contributing to both new product development and ongoing improvements. The role also includes some international travel for commissioning, troubleshooting, and supporting installations at customer sites.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Engineering motion and automation control solutions for complex multi axis machinery
  • Programming, testing, and refining PLC, motion, and HMI systems
  • Creating intuitive HMI interfaces focused on operator usability and clarity
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Influencing the evolution of control system architecture and product enhancements
  • Participating in commissioning activities and providing occasional on site technical assistance abroad
  • Producing clear, comprehensive documentation for internal and external stakeholders
About You
  • Solid background in machine build, automation equipment, or special purpose machinery
  • Strong technical understanding of motion control and multi axis systems
  • Experience with Beckhoff or Bosch Rexroth platforms (highly advantageous)
  • Ability to design clean, intuitive HMIs with user experience in mind
  • Hands on knowledge of PLCs, drives, sensors, safety systems, and industrial networks
  • Confidence in diagnosing faults, commissioning complex machines, and solving problems under pressure
  • Clear communication and documentation skills
Why It's a Great Move
  • Join an internationally recognised engineering business with a reputation for innovation
  • Work with cutting edge automation technologies in a hands on, practical environment
  • Become part of a friendly, supportive, and family led company culture
  • Enjoy the freedom to influence design decisions and real product improvements
  • Be part of a business where your expertise and initiative genuinely matter
Considering Relocating?
  • Financial support towards moving expenses
  • Advice on local housing and community amenities
  • Practical help with planning your move and settling in
  • If you're the right person for the team, they'll work with you to make the transition as smooth as possible-whether you're moving from elsewhere in the UK or overseas.
