Overview

Job Title: Contracts and Procurement Lawyer Ref: Middlesbrough Pay rate: £22.65 per hour PAYE Role length: Anticipated 4 months

The role

We are seeking a Contracts and Procurement Lawyer to support the Council to achieve strategic objectives through the provision of a first class legal service under the direction of the Senior Solicitor. You will carry out such legal and administrative duties that are necessary to provide legal advice and services in connection with the Council's commercial activities with a focus on contracts and procurement.

Key responsibilities
  • At the direction of the Senior Lawyer, to undertake all legal work commensurate with the nature of the post
  • To support and assist the Senior Lawyer in commercial contract matters, procurement matters, construction contract matters and such other matters and work types as may be required
  • To draft legal documentation
  • To represent Legal Services in meetings, courts, inquiries and appeals
  • To provide cover and support for the Solicitors, Barristers and Legal Executives, as required by the Senior Solicitor Lawyer or Head of Legal Services
  • To undertake legal research as and when required
  • To support the work of the business partnership approach across the authority by working closely with, and building relationships with other service areas
  • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grading and nature of the post, as may from time to time be required
What the client is looking for
  • Qualified Lawyer, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive
  • At least five years post-qualification experience or equivalent
  • Experience of commercial matters, covering commercial contracts, procurement and constructions matters
  • Proficient in administrative tasks (completing and drafting forms etc)
  • Proficient IT skills
  • Commitment to develop knowledge in other areas of commercial activity
