Job title: Contract Systems Engineer

Location: Bristol - 3 days in office Tues, Wed & Thurs

Salary: £550-£650 per day Outside IR35

Job type: 6-9 months contract

iO Associates needs a Systems Engineer to work with a fast-growing UK engineering firm delivering mission-critical, edge-deployed systems for defence, security, and emergency services. They specialise in modular hardware, rapid software integration, and AI-enabled solutions designed for harsh, connectivity-denied environments.

What you'll do:

• Own requirements and architecture (DOORS, design reviews)
• Build scripts/tools (Python, GIS apps)
• Configure IP systems, assess tech (make/buy/modify)
• Deliver solutions rapidly - from concept to build
• Stay market-aware on AI and the latest defence tech

What we're after:

• Defence background - land / C4I / dismounted experience ideal (BATCIS, LeTaccys)
• Strong systems fundamentals + hands-on engineering
• Comfortable with short V-cycles and documentation
• BPSS clearance or the ability to obtain
