Main duties of the jobApplications are invited to apply for the above post for the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department at Oxford University Hospitals.
We require a Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant specialising in complex hip arthroplasty and pelvis and acetabular trauma. The appointee will work as part of a team of dedicated arthroplasty surgeons at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and as part of the Major Trauma Centre team at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Both services share a catchment population of 3 million with an additional substantial tertiary workload. It is anticipated that this appointment will provide surgical skill for 'fix and replace' complex periacetabular injuries, and act as a liaison point between the elective hip service and the trauma service.This is integral to this appointment and applicants will need to demonstrate fellowship level training in both complex hip arthroplasty and pelvis and acetabular surgery.

Person Specification Qualifications/Training- Full GMC Registration and license to practice
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT/CESR (CP) on the date of interview
- DPhil/PhD relevant to Hip surgery
- 12 months Fellowship in Hip arthroplasty surgery
- Consultant level experience in the clinical management of complex primary and revision arthroplasty surgery.
- CCST in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery; OR Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery
- 6 months Fellowship level training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery including pelvic and acetabular surgery
- Experience at consultant level for "fix and replace" for complex acetabular fractures.
- Experience of consultant responsibilities in a tertiary referral centre for complex arthroplasty and a major trauma unit.
- Experience of working in a tertiary referral centre for complex hip arthroplasty.
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems.
- Able to work effectively as part of multidisciplinary team
- Evidence of instigating service level improvement / QIP for clinical pathways, and collection of patients reported outcome measures.
- Excellent leadership skills. Evidence of ability to lead a clinical team at the level of a consultant in a teaching hospital.
- Effective administrative and time management skills. Training in clinical management. Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS.
- Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork within a regional multidisciplinary team.
- Good written English. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees and of routine clinical audit.
- Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities
- Peer reviewed publications
- Experience of peer-review for journals
- Evidence of involvement in clinical management and participation in Clinical Governance
- Evidence of involvement of the development and instigation of innovative patient pathways.
- Evidence of experience with electronic patient record and database administration and management
- Experience of the ARCP process as a panel member.
