Triple West Medical has been appointed by an NHS Trust in North West England to assist in recruiting a Consultant Microbiologist for a substantive position. The Trust is also open to considering a Locum Fixed Term Contract for a minimum of 12 months. There is an opportunity for the right candidate to become the Clinical Lead and Deputy Director of IPC.
The NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community health services to approximately 550,000 residents across multiple sites. It is committed to delivering high standards of care and continuously improving patient experience.
The advertised Consultant post in Infection (Medical Microbiology or Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases) is a full-time position (10.4 programmed activities). It is a replacement role, sharing responsibilities with current Consultant Microbiologists, Specialists, and a Specialty Doctor. The successful candidate will work closely with other consultants and aim to uphold and enhance service quality. Support for the Medical Director, who has taken on the role of DIPC, is preferred. There is also potential to lead the department towards establishing a centre of excellence in microbiology.
Brief Duties / Responsibilities- Liaison with clinicians, hospital staff, and GPs regarding diagnosis, management, and infection prevention.
- Coordination with Public Health England and the Health Protection Unit for infection management and notification of notifiable diseases.
- This is a full-time role with a job plan to be established within three months of employment.
- The appointee may choose to focus on specific clinical areas based on their interests or expertise.
- Provide advice and interpret results of microbiology tests.
- Participate in weekly antimicrobial ward rounds and daily ICU ward rounds.
- Implement and participate in medical audit programs and multidisciplinary clinical audits, including C.diff MDT, OPAT MDT, Orthopaedics MDT, and Endocarditis MDT.
- Contribute to policies, procedures, and guidelines related to microbiology and other departments.
- Collaborate with infection control nurses to manage infection control across the Trust.
- Investigate infection control incidents, participate in root cause analyses, and implement reduction strategies for hospital-acquired infections.
- Address decontamination issues as needed.
- Manage the microbiology laboratory operations in accordance with UKAS standards, with technical support.
Our client is willing to issue Certificates of Sponsorship to qualified overseas doctors. GMC registration and relevant experience are essential.
