An exciting opportunity has arisen for two 0.8 WTE substantive consultant post working at North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH). These posts have an NHS contract held by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).
Main duties of the jobThe appointees will work in collaboration to provide senior clinical leadership to the Specialist Palliative Care service at NMGH. The post holders also will work in partnership with the Palliative Medicine Consultants across Manchester Foundation Trust.

Person Specification Qualifications- MBBS / MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification MRCP or equivalent Full registration with GMC and licence to practice CCT in Palliative Medicine (or within 6 months at the time of interview) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
- MD/PhD
- Training and work experience in Specialist Palliative Medicine in hospital, hospice and community settings Work experience in Oncology and the Primary Care setting Expert knowledge and experience of symptom control in malignant and non-malignant conditions Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients at consultant level Up to date knowledge of relevant literature
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients and other healthcare professionals Ability to form good professional relationships with patients and staff and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team Time management skills and ability to organise and manage patient priorities and workload Strong clinical and strategic leadership skills Demonstrates flexible approach with ability to motivate others IT skills
- Advanced Communication Skills training
- Experience in leading education and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level Commitment to supporting education within the multi-disciplinary team Experience of supervising junior colleagues
- Teaching qualification
- Participation in and leadership of audits and quality improvement projects Publications relevant to Palliative Medicine Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems Core research skills with ability to embrace a research culture
- Peer reviewed research publications Ability to supervise postgraduate research
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Is able to reach the hospice sites for on call commitments within 30-45 minutes
