The Older Peoples Medicine Department atLeeds Teaching Hospital Trust is a dynamic, forward-thinking team with a strongtrack record of clinical excellence, education and innovation. The successfulcandidate will join a team of 31 Consultant colleagues, supported by a team of residentdoctors of all grades, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and 4 PhysicianAssistants, who are committed to delivering high-quality care to a diversepatient population. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Older PeoplesMedicine Team. Both posts will contribute to acute care for older people andgeneral geriatrics along with General medicine. One post has the opportunity tofocus on Orthogeriatrics and bone health including inpatient orthogeriatriccare, perioperative optimisation, rehabilitation planning and involvement inthe development of integrated frailty pathways. The other post will workclosely with Leeds Community Healthcare working within our Home Ward and inproactive community work. The department is actively engaged in servicetransformation aligned with the Trusts Hospital of the Future programme,offering opportunities for leadership, innovation and teaching. We welcomeapplicants with a passion for improving outcomes for older people and acommitment to collaborative, patient-centred care.

Main duties of the jobThesuccessful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be includedon the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview,if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.
Applicants should haveestablished skills in GeriatricMedicine and Internal Medicineandits related specialties including Orthogeriatrics and Community Geriatrics. Astrong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a researchinterest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicantswho wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

Job responsibilitiesIn relation to this post,the post will be based between St James University Hospital and the LeedsGeneral Infirmary.
2.OBJECTIVESOF THE POST
2.1Todeliver high quality evidenced based care to patients with frailty needs presentingto LTHT for inpatient or outpatient care.
2.2To work with the Orthogeriatic andorthopaedic teams to provide evidence based high quality care for older peoplepresenting with a fracture, with particular focus on Fractured neck of femur,perioperative medicine and bone health.
2.3To link with consultant colleagues inother specialist teams within the Trust inparticular the emergency department, other medical and acute surgicalspecialties and with colleagues in primary care and those at the interface toprovide excellent care for older people living with frailty.
2.4Towork with colleagues in Older Peoples Medicine to deliver acute on call(currently 1 in 20) This includes out of hours cover including ward rounds foracute admissions of older people.
2.5To contribute to research, teaching,and new developments within the management of acute illness in older people.The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the currentclinical research programs on going in the department.
Person Specification Training, Research, Teaching & Audit- Should have completed a recognised training programme in Geriatric Medicine and Internal medicine.
- Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
- Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
- Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
- Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
- Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
- MBChB (or equivalent)
- MRCP and SCE in Geriatric Medicine or equivalent qualification.
- Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
- YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
- Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all areas of Geriatric Medicine.
- Specifically, must demonstrate clinical experience in either community geriatrics or orthogeriatrics.
- Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
- Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
- Well organised and skilled in good time management.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.
- Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via:
- CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process. CESR applicants must be on the relevant Specialist Register at the time of application.
- Attendance at recognised management course.
