Applications are invited for a consultant post in Acute General Medicine (AGM) and Ambulatory Care Medicine at OUH. You will be based mainly at the John Radcliffe and Horton Hospitals. We seek colleagues skilled in delivering acute medical care and coordinating with Emergency Department and other hospital specialties.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide consultant physician services across the Trust, including care of acute admissions, care of outpatients, leading ward rounds and other professional activities related to Acute General Medicine and Ambulatory Care. The duties may be performed across Trust locations.

Person specification Qualifications/Training
  • GMC registration
  • CCT/CCST/CESR in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine
  • Medical Degree (MBChB, MBBS) MRCP or equivalent
  • Higher medical degree
Work Experience
  • General training in medicine to specialist level or equivalent
  • Experience in acute general medicine (minimum 12 months at SpR or consultant level)
  • Broad experience of acute general medicine
  • Ability to make decisions at consultant level and manage complex clinical problems
  • Evidence of completed and published research
  • Experience in management of frail elderly in acute setting
Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to lead a clinical team at consultant level
  • Organisational skills to function as a consultant
  • Experience in teamwork and multi-professional collaboration
  • Flexibility and openness to innovative ways of working
  • Excellent spoken and written English; strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Experience with clinical governance, risk management and audit
  • Ability to support departmental research
  • Evidence of NHS leadership, research, teaching or service development
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Experience with clinical information systems
