Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cardiology department in North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist. The postholder will have Cath Lab sessions at the Bristol Heart Institute (BHI) and contribute to the regional Primary PCI rota.
North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) are high-performing organisations committed to delivering excellent care, teaching, and research. They are forming a Hospital Group to provide seamless, high-quality, and equitable care across Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire.
In Spring 2025, the Cardiology Specialty at NBT will form a Group Cardiac Service with UHBW, operating as a single service across two Trusts, led by a unified leadership team.
Main duties of the job
- Provide ongoing care for patients and ensure the smooth functioning of the service.
- Participate in the Consultant of the Week rota, managing the Coronary Care Unit and general Cardiology ward, including daily ward rounds on the Acute Medical Unit.
- Participate in the regional non-invasive rota, handling PPCI cases out of hours at the Bristol Heart Institute.
- Have dedicated Catheter Laboratory sessions at Southmead Hospital and Bristol Heart Institute.
- Deliver outpatient care through regular General Cardiology clinics.
- Maintain professional development through meetings, courses, and CPD activities.
- Participate in audit, meetings, and administrative duties as directed.
- Cover colleagues' leave when required.
Person specification
Qualifications and Registration
- Maintain full GMC registration.
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
- Hold a CCT in Cardiology and be on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of appointment.
Training and Experience
- Recent UK hospital experience and familiarity with NHS systems.
- Minimum of 10 years postgraduate experience, including higher training.
- 5 years as an SpR or equivalent responsibility.
- Subspecialty accreditation in Interventional Cardiology.
Further Training, Management, and Audit
- Recent CME and training progression evidence.
- Experience in audit projects and reporting.
- Knowledge of NHS management issues and the political context.
Research, Training, and Publications
- Willingness to teach medical students and trainees.
- Proven teaching ability.
- Track record in research and publications is desirable.
Personal Requirements
- Leadership and team-building skills.
- Ability to motivate and develop junior staff.
- Independent and team-working abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
