As an Apprentice Materials Technician you'll be working in a laboratory that tests construction materials. The environment is practical, adventurous, and hands on: you'll learn by doing alongside experienced technicians and can help improve products through testing and analysis.
Working as part of a close knit team, you'll be supported and guided by other apprentices and experienced materials technicians.
As a member of BBV HS2's laboratory team you'll push construction materials to their limits, ensuring they remain safe, reliable, and durable without requiring costly maintenance. You will test on site and in the lab and may travel to nearby locations.
What you'll be doing:- Test properties of construction materials, including concrete, aggregates and asphalt
- Improve performance of existing products to eliminate faults with materials already in use
- Introduce new testing technologies - automated processes, ergonomic equipment and recording systems
- Use non destructive testing (NDT) methods to examine materials
- Follow testing methods to support the lab's accreditation and maintain safety and quality
- Travel to and from sites, collect materials to be tested
You enjoy outdoor work on real world projects and travelling between locations. You're practical, reliable, and detail focused, taking pride in following procedures accurately. You understand quality and safety matters, can work to clear standards and deadlines, and are comfortable in fast paced environments.
You learn best by doing, using equipment and tools, maintaining calm around machinery, and recording data accurately. You are independent once trained but communicate clearly with site teams.
You are motivated by tangible contributions to roads, buildings and infrastructure and are keen to build a long term career in the construction or materials testing industry.
Please note: Due to insurance requirements, you must be 21 or over and hold a full UK manual driving licence.
