Amspec Limited in Wigan has grown over the last 23 years into one of the most capable and exciting Design & Build enterprises in the Northwest, operating in four key sectors:

  • Commercial and Industrial
  • Retail and Leisure
  • Public Sector
  • Specialist and Bespoke (including the Design and Manufacture of fitted and loose Joinery products)

We currently have a fantastic opportunity to add to our busy Commercial Team by recruiting an Experienced or Assistant Estimator.

For both positions, we expect you to have some experience in the Construction / Interiors Sector, working on projects of varying values.

Having gained, or being in the process of gaining, a qualification in Construction & The Built Environment or a similar Construction-related degree is desirable.

The successful candidate will produce high-quality, accurate estimates in a legible, analytical, and logical format. Responsibilities include processing tenders, reviewing tenders within the team prior to submission, identifying risks, acquiring prices from our pool of sub-contractors, and preparing accurate take-offs.

Amspec works with specific estimating software; knowledge of Evaluate or similar would be beneficial, though full training will be provided.

Further duties include:
  • Managing all aspects of Bid Preparation, Enquiries to Sub-Contractors, Cost Comparisons, Bid Strategies, with a deep sector understanding
  • Organising and attending site visits with Clients and Sub-contractors
  • Client liaison, including attending progress meetings to stay informed of commercial issues
  • Handling multiple tenders in a busy environment
  • Learning our Software Eque2 / Evaluate quickly
  • Proficiency in MS Project is advantageous
  • Undertaking Client Tender Presentations
  • Technical knowledge of construction methods applied to tenders

Attendance at sites for surveys is required; a full UK driving licence is essential. You should have excellent computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Word and Excel, and a common-sense approach to sourcing information and solving problems.

The ideal candidate will be a hardworking individual with excellent communication skills. The role involves client and customer interaction, so confidence is necessary, especially for presentations.

This is a full-time, permanent position starting ASAP. Typical hours are Monday to Friday, 07:30 am to 5:00 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break (hours are flexible).
