Computing Tutor
Posted 11 days 4 hours ago by Company Name:New Meaning Training Limited.
Salary: Salary is negotiable and based on experience
Do you want a role where you can help young people rediscover that computing can be enjoyable, creative and confidence building? Are you someone who naturally brings technology to life for others-whether through everyday digital skills, gaming, problem solving or helping people feel more at ease with IT?
We're looking for a Tutor to lead our new "Introduction to Computing" SETPD course at our Aylesbury Enrichment Centre-a nurturing, community rooted site that many still know as the former Healthy Living Centre in Walton Court.
This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable with Microsoft 365 and everyday digital tools, but whose real strength lies in inspiring learners who may have had poor or uninspiring computing experiences at school. You might come from an IT support background, be the "gototech" person in your workplace, have experience supporting young people through mentoring or youth work, or simply have a passion for making technology feel accessible and relevant.
You'll create an engaging, hands on course where learners aged 15-25 can build digital confidence through practical activities such as basic computer skills, online safety, office applications, gaming and introductory coding, creative tasks, and real world digital challenges. Many of our learners have additional needs or have struggled in traditional education; they thrive when learning feels calm, supportive and rooted in success. As our Computing Tutor, you'll help them experience those "I didn't think I could do that!" moments that transform self belief and open new pathways.
If you want a rewarding career where your enthusiasm, patience and creativity can genuinely change lives, this role offers exactly that.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging sessions for the Introduction to Computing curriculum (Entry 3/Level 1), using practical, relatable activities.
- Introduce learners to areas such as basic computer operations, digital literacy, online safety, internet navigation, word processing, presentation software, gaming & coding, and simple creative computing tasks.
- Make computing enjoyable and confidence building by using small group work, hands on projects and real world digital scenarios.
- Embed Functional Skills in Maths and English naturally through everyday computing tasks (e.g., formatting, instructions, simple data, online reading).
- Support learners to build digital independence, communication skills, problem solving skills and self belief.
- Create a calm, inclusive and nurturing learning environment that supports learners with a wide range of needs, including SEND and SEMH.
- Use trauma informed, relational approaches to promote positive behaviour, engagement and wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate records of progress, attendance and individual learning outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with LSAs, pastoral teams and tutors from other pathways to create a joined up support experience.
- Provide opportunities for digital related work experience, project based learning and career exploration.
- Communicate effectively with parents/carers, internal teams and external professionals when appropriate.
New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are an alternative education provider dedicated to helping young people aged discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living.
For the academic year, around 300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire will join one of our programmes. Many of these students are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings.
Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as "Toolshed." Ten years on, NMT continues to grow, with two new centres that opened for the academic year.
New Meaning Training delivers a broad offer across several counties, and in Buckinghamshire we operate three centres-High Wycombe, Aylesbury and Milton Keynes-that provide flexible pathways for young people to build confidence, develop skills and move toward positive destinations. Across these centres, learners can access a varied mix of SETPD "Introduction to " courses, including Catering, Computing, Community Care, Motor Mechanics, Creative Art & Design and Hair & Beauty, alongside our established Construction Multiskills programme, BoostWork skills, and Achieve Life skills. We also offer Transition Support, an outreach programme designed for young people who need time and tailored support before reengaging with a learning environment. All programmes incorporate Functional Skills in Maths and English, supported by tutorials that build personal growth, wellbeing and employability. Each Buckinghamshire centre has its own character: High Wycombe will expand into a new dedicated learning space on Baker Street from September 2026; Aylesbury occupies the much loved former Healthy Living Centre; and Milton Keynes offers a distinctive practical setting in its converted lighting shop. Together, these centres form a key part of our wider regional provision.
NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.
